RIAC at Shanghai Forum 2018

On May 26–28, 2018, Shanghai hosted an international forum organized by Fudan University, the event was launched in 2005 and ran for the 13th time. Traditionally, the event touched upon a wide range of issues, united by a common theme. This year the organizers suggested discussing the issues of responsible participation of Asian countries in global governance. 30 sessions were held within the framework of the forum. The total number of participants was almost 500 people.

Traditionally, the event touched upon a wide range of issues, united by a common theme. This year the organizers suggested discussing the issues of responsible participation of Asian countries in global governance. 30 sessions were held within the framework of the forum. The total number of participants was almost 500 people.
RIAC was represented at two sessions. Elena Kudryashova, Rector of the Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University, took part in the discussion on Arctic development. Timur Makhmutov, RIAC Deputy Director of Programs, made a report at «China, Russia and Central Asian Countries: The Way towards Win-win Cooperation» session. Yury Kulintsev, RIAC expert, Associate Researcher at the Institute of Far Eastern Studies (IFES) Russian Academy of Sciences, chaired the session. As part of the discussion, the participants discussed the development trajectories of Central Asian countries, opportunities for their cooperation with Russia and China, prospects for integration projects in the region. Special focus was given to the potential of the SCO and its role in strengthening regional stability and maintaining a constructive dialogue between the member states.
