Short version

On September 26, 2019 an expert discussion among Russian and Australian experts on strategic issues in the Asia Pacific was held. Ksenia Kuzmina, Program Manager at the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), took part in the meeting. 

The discussion focused on Russia’s and Australia’s views on the regional dynamics, prospects for promoting Russia’s ties with regional actors and Moscow’s position on the Indo-Pacific concept. The U.S.’s, China’s and India’s policies in the Asia Pacific and in broader context were also given special attention.

Dr. Hugh White, Emeritus Professor of Strategic Studies in the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at the Australian National University, Prof. Michael Wesley, Professor of International Affairs and Dean of the College of Asia and the Pacific at the Australian National University, Graeme Meehan, Ambassador of Australia to Russia, Jill Collins, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Australia to Russia, and Alexey Kupriyanov, Senior Research Fellow at the Promakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations of RAS, RIAC Expert, also took part in the discussion.
