On April 15, 2014 RIAC hosted a presentation of "General Theory of War" by Major-General Alexander Vladimirov, a two-volume monograph offering an overall view of the war as a social phenomenon and "a critical part of national existence".
When opening the event, RIAC President Igor Ivanov underlined: "Today it seems quite difficult to predict the essence of the next spiral of tensions. However, in order to grasp the appropriate modus operandi, we must be ready for any scenario. General Vladimirov's book is hardly a call for war but rather for ways to avoid the bloodshed. To have it prevented, one should posses an adequate national security strategy and properly streamlined governance. To this end, the work appears most opportune, both for analysis and discussion."
In his address, General Vladimirov expanded on the key points of his monograph that has incorporated the teachings of the war, national strategy, army and state ideology within a single concept, and finalized his presentation by arguing that "victory is brought by knowledge, faith, will, power and force, while it is the art that helps one win."
The event was attended by representatives of the Russian Defense Ministry, its Veterans' Council, Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Academy of Cosmonautics and other institutions, as well as graduates of Suvorov Military Schools. Renowned scholars and military commanders have highly praised General Vladimirov's monograph having emphasized its considerable contribution to the development of modern war science and pertinence not only for experts, but also for the top brass and government authorities.
