4th RIAC and RUSI Workshop on Strategic Stability and Arms Control
Short version
On February 10, 2022, RIAC held its 4th workshop on strategic stability and arms control in partnership with the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).
The workshop was held at a time of heightened tensions between Russia and NATO related to the situation on the border with Ukraine and the escalation of militant rhetoric on both sides. In this situation, the need to discuss security issues in Europe and analyze conflict prevention measures only increases.

On February 10, 2022, RIAC held its 4th workshop on strategic stability and arms control in partnership with the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).
The workshop was held at a time of heightened tensions between Russia and NATO related to the situation on the border with Ukraine and the escalation of militant rhetoric on both sides. In this situation, the need to discuss security issues in Europe and analyze conflict prevention measures only increases.
The workshop focused on the positions of Russian and British governments regarding the current state of Russia-NATO relations and their role in maintaining European security architecture. The following issues were covered: non-expansion of NATO to the east, indivisibility of security and the role of the OSCE in strengthening European security and influencing Russia-NATO relations.
The second session of the workshop was devoted to the future of arms control, including the possible resumption of negotiations on the INF Treaty. Both sides agreed that a lack of trust is not conducive to progress in the negotiations. Both Russian and British participants suggested some steps that would help develop confidence building measures between Russia and NATO and between Russia and the U.S.
The workshop was attended by leading experts on arms control and strategic stability of the two countries.
