On January 28, 2020, RIAC together with Africa Business Initiative held an expert meeting on the scenario for Libya: assessments of the current situation, further dynamics and multilateral agreements. The role of Russia in resolving tensions in the region.

Having discussed the current situation in Libya, the participants turned to Russia’s economic interests in Libya and focused on the significance of the Libyan crisis for the states of North Africa, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and the EU countries.

The meeting was opened by Ivan Molotkov, Chief Adviser to the Department of the Middle East and North Africa Department of MFA of Russia, former Russian Ambassador to Libya, who presented Russia's position on the situation in Libya.

The expert meeting was attended by representatives of academic institutions, research centers, consulting agencies, the media, and business: Konstantin Truevtsev, Alexander Shumilin, Vladimir Bartenev, Ekaterina Grushevenko, Elena Suponina, Yury Barmin, Kirill Semenov, Dmitry Smirnov, Marina Lisitsa.

Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, Nataliya Zaiser, Chair of the Board, Africa Business Initiative, moderated the discussion.

Following the results of the expert meeting, RIAC and Africa Business Initiative will prepare working papers with recommendations for Russian ministries and departments.
