The Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) is proud to present its new book entitled “The Ukrainian Crisis through the Prism of International Relations”.

The publication includes articles written by the President of the Russian International Affairs Council and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (1998–2004) Igor Ivanov that first appeared in late 2014 and early 2015.Much of the material in the collection is the result of collaborative work with other international relations experts.

The book also contains a selection of international documents and a chronological account of the crisis up to the middle of February 2015.

The work considers the Ukrainian crisis in a wider context through the use of primary materials, namely documents and factual information. The reader is thus afforded an insight into the opinions of the RIAC president, while at the same time being allowed to formulate his or her own opinion on the subject. A distinctive feature of the collected materials is the focus on finding a political resolution to the crisis, offering a realistic assessment of the common interests among all the sides.

As the author points out, “the Ukrainian crisis has emphasized the major problem of the world politics in the 21st century – apparent and constantly growing governance deficit of the whole contemporary IR system. The developments in Ukraine have become a frightening illustration of what our world can be if governance deficit continues to grow”.

RIAC hopes that international relations and global politics experts and practitioners, as well as anyone interested in the subject matter, will find this publication useful.

The book will be available at bookstores.
