On March 7, 2022, with the assistance of The Shaikh Group political consultancy, the ordinary virtual expert meeting on security issues in the regions of the Middle East and North Africa took place. Experts from Russia, the USA, a number of European countries, China, and India took part in the discussion.

On March 7, 2022, with the assistance of The Shaikh Group political consultancy, the ordinary virtual expert meeting on security issues in the regions of the Middle East and North Africa took place. Experts from Russia, the USA, a number of European countries, China, and India took part in the discussion.

The discussion focused on the impact of Russia’s military operation on the territory of Ukraine on the economic and political dynamics of the Middle East region, including global prices for hydrocarbons, food imports by the countries of the region, mediation attempts by Turkey and Israel, the fate of the multilateral nuclear deal with Iran, the future of the conflict in Syria, etc.. Russian side was represented by Irina Zvyagelskaya, RIAC Member, Head of the Center for the Middle East Studies at RAS IMEMO, Professor of the Department of Oriental Studies at MGIMO MFA, Senior Researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies at RAS Institute of Oriental Studies; Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General; and Elena Suponina, RIAC Expert.
