On March 18, 2022, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) continued the series of joint events and held a round table on Russia-China cooperation in the Arctic, the opportunities and limitations. The event was held behind closed doors.

The participants focused on prospects for the development of cooperation between Moscow and Beijing in the Arctic, the opportunities for regulatory and functional harmonization of the approaches of the two countries to the development of the region, as well as bottlenecks in partnership, given the changing geopolitical situation.

Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, and Li Zhenli, Vice Director of the Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (IREECAS, CASS), delivered welcoming remarks. Jin Zhe, Deputy Director of IREECAS CASS, moderated the discussion.

The speakers included: Li Yonghui, Leading Research Fellow, Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Policy Department of the CASS Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies; Vladimir Petrovsky, Chief Research Fellow at the Centre for Russia–Chinа Relations Studies and Forecasting of the RAS Institute of Far Eastern Studies; Li Zhenfu, professor of Dalian Maritime University; Nadezhda Kharlampieva, Associate Professor of the Department of World Politics, Saint Petersburg State University; Cong Xiaonan, Chief Research Fellow at the Institute for Urban and Environmental Studies, Deputy Head of the Department of Resource and Ecological Research; and Alexander Sergunin, Professor of the Theory and History of International Relations at St. Petersburg State University.

The discussion was attended by Andrey Krivorotov, Assistant Professor at Odintsovo Branch MGIMO MFA; Gao Jixiang, Chief Researcher, Deputy Director of the Department of Russian Economics at IREECAS, CASS; Lyudmila Filippova, Member of the Central Council, Head of the Committee for Regional Offices of the Russia-China Friendship Association; Shang Yue, Deputy Director of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR); and Anna Kireeva, Associate Professor at the Department of Oriental Studies, Research Fellow at Center for Comprehensive Chinese Studies and Regional Projects, MGIMO University.
