On May 16, 2016 the Russian International Affairs Council together with the EastWest Institute held an international seminar “Russia-US Cyber Cooperation – Building New Relations.” During the seminar, the participating experts discussed cooperation in countering cyber terrorism; indentifying terminology, critical for Russia and the United States in the field of cyber security; strengthening cooperative action and early warning of cyber attacks; the state’s role in the Internet development and the interaction of the Internet and business communities of the two countries.

On May 16, 2016 the Russian International Affairs Council together with the EastWest Institute held an international seminar “Russia-US Cyber Cooperation – Building New Relations.”

During the seminar, the participating experts discussed cooperation in countering cyber terrorism; indentifying terminology, critical for Russia and the United States in the field of cyber security; strengthening cooperative action and early warning of cyber attacks; the state’s role in the Internet development and the interaction of the Internet and business communities of the two countries. They also made important observations on existing problems in relations between the two countries in this field, and proposed a number of significant measures to promote cooperation.

The seminar was attended by Andrei Krutskikh, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on International Cooperation on Information Security; Vladimir Ovchinsky, Adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, a member of the expert council of the State Duma Commission on Anti-Corruption; representatives of academic institutions (Institute of World Economy and International Relations; RAS Institute for US and Canadian Studies; Institute of System-Strategic Analysis), universities (Moscow State University, MGIMO-University, Georgia Institute of Technology), NGOs (PIR Center, Russian Institute for Public Networks, Russian Association for Electronic Communications) and business community (ICANN, Microsoft, Group-IB, Rusatom Overseas, Silicon Valley Data Science).

RIAC was represented by its Director General Andrey Kortunov; Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Microsoft Russia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation, RIAC member Andrey Kolosovsky; General of the Army, RIAC member Valentin Korabelnikov; RIAC Deputy Program Director Timur Makhmutov and RIAC Program Coordinator Maria Gurova.

EastWest Institute was represented by Michael Chertoff, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of the Chertoff Group, former Secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security (2005-2009), Member of the Board of Directors of the EastWest Institute; Senior Vice President of the EastWest Institute Bruce McConnell and other members of the US expert and business communities.
