On January 20, 2020, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) in cooperation with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Russian Federation held a round table discussion "Priorities for the Development of Russian-Chinese Partnership in the New Era."

Igor Ivanov, RIAC President, Zhang Hanhui, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Russia, delivered welcoming remarks.

On January 20, 2020, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) in cooperation with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Russian Federation held a round table discussion "Priorities for the Development of Russian-Chinese Partnership in the New Era."

Igor Ivanov, RIAC President, Zhang Hanhui, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Russia, delivered welcoming remarks.

Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs, and Su Fangqiu, Minister Plenipotentiary, Embassy of China in Russia, performed as moderators of the discussion. Russian and Chinese experts and diplomats discussed possibilities of promoting Russian-Chinese cooperation in the context of implementing national development goals, as well as impact of the international situation on relations between Moscow and Beijing. Participants paid special attention to the prospects for deepening Russian-Chinese cooperation in the scientific and innovative sphere, taking into account the Years of Russian-Chinese Scientific Cooperation 2020–2021. Emphasis was also placed on the development priorities of the SCO and BRICS in the context of the Russian presidency.

Key reports at the round table were made by Sergey Luzyanin, Director, Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IFES RAS), RIAC Member; Zhao Chuyan, Adviser, Department for Trade and Economic Issues, Embassy of China in Russia; Vasily Kashin, Head, CCEIS Section of International Military-Political and Military-Economic Problems, Higher School of Economics, IFES RAS Leading Research Fellow, RIAC Member; Lu Ye, Deputy Head, Political Department, Embassy of China in Russia; Mikhail Troitsky, Director, School of Government and International Affairs, MGIMO University; Wang Bing, First Secretary, Political Department, Embassy of China in Russia, and Sun Jian, Adviser-Envoy, Head, Department of Science and Technology, Embassy of China in Russia.

Sergey Afontsev, IMEMO RAS Deputy Director for Research, RAS Corresponding Member, RIAC Member, and Ivan Danilin, Head, Department of Science and Innovation, IMEMO RAS, also took part in the discussion.
