On February 27, 2015, RIAC Deputy Program Director Timur Makhmutov and Ambassador Valery Morozov, a RIAC expert, took part in the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum to present RIAC's report "Russia-Mexico Relations: Traditional Basics and Imperatives for Renovation" at the session on Russia's relations with Latin America. The event was attended by heads of Latin American missions including those from the Pacific Alliance, as well as members of the Krasnoyarsk Area administration, business community and civil society engaged in promotion of Russia's interests in the region.

The audience was welcomed by Sergey Katyrin, President of the Chamber for Commerce and Industry, who stressed the enormous potential of the Russia-Latin America relationship in the emerging international environment. Other speakers repeatedly mentioned the need to provide Russia with a permanent forum on economic cooperation with Latin America for subsequent establishment of an appropriate chamber for commerce and industry to have the Russian business community informed of the projects in the region. Many participants said that along with the geographical remoteness, the progress seems to be hampered by the language barrier. To this end, RIAC's report was presented in Russian and Spanish and is now available for loading from the website.

Summarizing the panel outcomes on the moderator's request, Ambassador Morozov emphasized that Russia critically needs materializing the potential for interaction with Latin American countries in Asia-Pacific, whereas Mexico, which refrains from sanctioning Russia, may emerge as a springboard for inroads into the Latin American markets through the Pacific Alliance and North America through the NAFTA.

Devoted this year to Asia-Pacific and traditionally honored by government members and representatives of the Russian Presidential Administration, the 12th Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum was devoted to joint regional projects and searching substance for Russia's partnerships across the Pacific Ocean.
