On March 25, 2020, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) held an online orientation workshop within the framework of the RuBase project. The project is aimed at creating a platform to conduct joint research on Russia’s relations with the United States and the European Union. The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Tech and the Hague Center for Strategic Studies are partner institutions in this project.

Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs, and Adam Stulberg, Professor at Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Tech, delivered the opening remarks. Ivan Timofeev outlined the academic goals of the project participants and showcased the efficiency of RuBase as a platform for joint research in the field of international relations. Adam Stulberg emphasized that the goal of the project is to provide academics with new tools for applied research as well as facilitate interaction between representatives of Russian scientific schools.
Stephan De Spiegeleire, Principal Scientist at the Hague Center for Strategic Studies, told the participants of the orientation workshop about the goals and objectives of the project, presenting the Rizzoma platform as a useful means to establish communication between the participants and perform joint research. The project seeks to create a visual and interactive knowledge base obtained through data analysis, identify the drivers of Russian foreign policy, make projections based on the data obtained and work on solving the structural challenges of international relations.
The discussion focused on the relevant analysis tools and methods for conducting research in the field of international relations. Special attention was given to the issues of working with bibliometric tools.
The event was attended by representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Saint Petersburg State University, Ural Federal University, Tomsk State University, Nizhny Novgorod State University and Perm State University. RIAC was represented by Elena Karpinskaya, RIAC Deputy Director of Programs; Ruslan Mamedov, RIAC Program Manager; Olga Pylova, RIAC Program Coordinator; Yulia Timofeeva, RIAC Program Assistant; and Ivan Bocharov, RIAC Referent.
