On April 23, 2018, Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Dushanbe hosted a seminar on formation of a single Eurasian educational space. Representatives from Russian-Tajik Slavonic University, Yeltsin Ural Federal University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Tajikistan State University of Law, Business, and Politics, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Ural-Eurasia Expert Club     took part in the meeting.

Representatives from Russian-Tajik Slavonic University, Yeltsin Ural Federal University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Tajikistan State University of Law, Business, and Politics, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Ural-Eurasia Expert Club     took part in the meeting.

Timur Makhmutov, RIAC Deputy Director of Programs, made a speech at the event.

The following issues were discussed in the course of the meeting: Russia’s presence in the educational space of the Central Asian states, the development of the network of Slavic universities, the prospects for cooperation between the universities of Russia and Tajikistan, creation of joint training programs, modernization of university web-sites to enhance the competitiveness of universities, the problem of vocational guidance for students of humanitarian areas of study, training and employment in Russia for young people from Tajikistan.

The participants of the discussion underscored the importance of scientific area developed in Dushanbe during the Soviet period for strengthening their own research base in Tajikistan and forming a system of scientific cooperation with Russia, in particular, the strong positions of oriental studies in Tajikistan, especially in the area of Iran and Afghanistan studies, and the educational and production base within the country for future specialists in the areas of mining and metallurgy.

Mikhail Vozhdaev, Head of Russian Centre for Science and Culture, made concluding remarks and pointed out the high potential for increasing contacts between Russia and Tajikistan in educational sphere. This is largely due to the prestige of Russian education that remains in Tajikistan and the importance of the Russian language as a tool for intercultural communication.
