On December 14-15, 2017, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) hosted   International Conference «Empowering Sustainability in a Fragile World».

The conference was held by the international consortium of educational and research organizations on the platform of Lomonosov Moscow Sate University (School of World Politics — Center for Security and Development Studies), University of California, Irvine (USA), and RAS Institute of Oriental Studies in cooperation with Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) with funds from Russian Science Foundation.

On December 14-15, 2017, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) hosted   International Conference «Empowering Sustainability in a Fragile World».

The conference was held by the international consortium of educational and research organizations on the platform of Lomonosov Moscow Sate University (School of World Politics — Center for Security and Development Studies), University of California, Irvine (USA), and RAS Institute of Oriental Studies in cooperation with Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) with funds from Russian Science Foundation.

The conference aimed at initiating an essential discussion on the multi-disciplinary topic among the experts in security and promotion of development, as well as the experts in specific countries and regions coming from Russia, the countries of the Middle East, Western Europe, and North America.

Andrei Kokoshin, RIAC Member, Dean of the Faculty of World Politics at Lomonosov Moscow State University, RAS Full Member, made an opening speech at the event.

The experts discussed a number of topics focusing on security and sustainable development at global and regional levels. Some sessions focused on the outcomes of

Separate sessions were devoted to the consequences of changing the principles of the global economy and world energy functioning for the sake of political stability in the countries of the global South in general and the Middle East, in particular; conceptual comprehension of state solvency issues and approaches of individual donor states to rendering assistance to "fragile states"; the concept of negative peace and armed violence in the realities of the 21st century; mechanisms of mutual influence of the deficit of food, water and energy resources, deepening of inequality and growing political instability; ways of conflict resolution; security and order in the context of political transformation; fragility of institutions and socio-economic development.

Konstantin Kosachev, RIAC Member, Member of the Federation Council of the RF Federal Assembly, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, made a speech at the closing session.
