On November 26, 2021 the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held a round table “International Cooperation in the Fight against COVID-19: Russian and Chinese Approaches”. The event was organized as part of the series of RIAC–CASS online events.

Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, and Sun Zhuangzhi, Director of the CASS Institute for Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies (IREECAS), delivered welcoming remarks. In his address, Dr. Sun congratulated RIAC on the 10th anniversary and expressed hope for further development of bilateral academic ties between Moscow and Beijing.

The experts discussed the ever-relevant international issues, such as the prospects and limitations of the international cooperation in the fight against COVID-19 and the politicization of the so-called vaccine diplomacy. Russian specialists highlighted the need to proceed with the practical steps concerning green passports for the vaccinated and mutual recognition of vaccines.

Yana Leksyutina, Professor of the St. Petersburg State University and RAS Professor, Wei Nanzhi, Leading Research Fellow, Head of the Department of the Social and Cultural Studies of the CASS Institute for American Studies, Anastasia Pyatachkova, Deputy Head of the Asia-Pacific Department of the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies and Deputy Head of the International Laboratory on World Order Studies and the New Regionalism, Higher School of Economics, and Ma Qiang, Leading Research Fellow, Deputy Head of the Department of Political, Social and Cultural Studies of Russia of the IREECAS CASS, spoke at the event. Vladimir Petrovsky, Chief Research Fellow of the RAS Institute of Far Eastern Studies also took part in the Q&A session.
