On December 13, 2021, the round table "Views of Russia and Turkey on the situation in Afghanistan" was held at the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC). The meeting was organized jointly with the Center for Strategic Research of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey (SAM). The goal of the round table was to discuss the positions of Russia and Turkey on key issues related to the Afghan problem. Leading Russian and Turkish experts attended the meeting.

On December 13, 2021, the round table "Views of Russia and Turkey on the situation in Afghanistan" was held at the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC). The meeting was organized jointly with the Center for Strategic Research of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey (SAM). The goal of the round table was to discuss the positions of Russia and Turkey on key issues related to the Afghan problem. Leading Russian and Turkish experts attended the meeting.

The first session was devoted to the role of regional powers in Afghanistan, as well as the humanitarian situation and the military presence in Afghanistan. During the second session, the participants discussed the approaches of Russia and Turkey to resolving the problems in Afghanistan. Also, there was a discussion on the risks and opportunities for the development of economic cooperation with this country.

On the part of the RIAC, the round table was attended by: Andrey Kortunov, Director General at the RIAC; Ivan Safranchuk, Director at the Center for Eurasian Studies of MGIMO University; Alexandr Shumilin, Head at the Europe-Middle East Center of Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Yulia Antonova, First Secretary at the Afghanistan Section of the Second Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia; Omar Nessar, Senior Researcher at the Center for Middle East Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the RAS; Georgi Asatryan, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of World Politics of the Lomonosov Moscow State University; Ivan Bocharov, Program Assistant at the RIAC.

On the part of the SAM, the meeting was attended by: Ufuk Ulutaş, Chairman at the SAM; Mesut Özcan, Chairman at the Diplomacy Academy of MFA of the Turkey; Hakkı Uygur, Chairman at the Center for Iranian Studies; Muhammed Koçak, Researcher at the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research; Zeynep Gündüz, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Moscow; Arda Ülgen, Second Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Moscow; Sarp Sarsar, Third Secretary at the SAM.
