On December 14, 2020, a Russian-British online workshop on global health and security was held. This workshop opened the fifth cycle of the long-term Russia-UK project “A New Agenda for Russia–UK Relations" (Dialog on Security Issues). RIAC project partner is the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).

On December 14, 2020, a Russian-British online workshop on global health and security was held. This workshop opened the fifth cycle of the long-term Russia-UK project “A New Agenda for Russia–UK Relations" (Dialog on Security Issues). RIAC project partner is the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the ease of coronavirus transmission have underscored the need to cooperate and to share best practices in the fight against coronavirus finding ways to stop its spread. Russia-UK expert workshop focuses on the study of healthcare security issues, as well as the analysis of the political issues raised by the pandemic. The dialog between Russian and British experts includes an assessment of different approaches aimed at tackling the pandemic in capital cities and in the regions, as well as the search of opportunities for reorganizing international organizations such as WHO. Special attention was given to identifying areas of common interest for Russia and the UK in the fight against the pandemic.

The workshop was attended by Russian experts representing research organizations, scientific and training centers of academic and educational institutions: Yury Sumarokov, Head of the Department of International Cooperation at Northern State Medical University; Tatiana Unguryanu, Professor of the Department of Hygiene and Medical Ecology, Northern State Medical University; Andrey Krivorotov, Assistant Professor at Odintsovo Branch MGIMO MFA; Vladimir Savostyanov, Professor of the Department of Biomedical Safety, Bauman Moscow State Technical University; Elena Ananyeva, Head of the Center for British Studies at RAS Institute of Europe; Ekaterina Romanova, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Geography, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Senior Research Fellow at RAS IMEMO; Nickolay Kryuchkov, CEO of Clinical Excellence Group, Rikke Ishoy, ICRC, Geneva Headquater and others.

The British side was represented by the University of London and UK regional universities.

The project provides for the publication of joint reports and analytical papers.

The project will be continued in 2021.
