On June 19, 2020, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) in cooperation with the Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies (IREECAS) at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held a round table discussion titled “Strategic Partnership between Russia and China: Specific Characteristics and Prospects for Development”. Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, and Sun Zhuangzhi, Director of the CASS Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies, delivered welcoming remarks.

Russian and Chinese participants discussed the current state and specific characteristics of Russia – China comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation, the value of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation for bilateral relations, as well as prospects for developing new cooperation mechanisms and areas of collaboration.

Alexey Maslov, Acting Director of the RAS Institute of Far Eastern Studies, Xue Fuqi, Head of the Strategic Studies Department at IREECAS CASS, Sergey Luzyanin, Professor at MGIMO University and Higher School of Economics, RIAC Member, Sheng Shiliang, Research Fellow at the Global Challenges Studies Center at Xinhua News Agency, Vladimir Petrovsky, Chief Research Fellow at the Centre for Russian-Chinese Relations Studies and Forecasting of the RAS Institute of Far Eastern Studies, Li Yonghui, Deputy Head of the Russia's Foreign Policy Department at IREECAS CASS, as well as Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs, spoke at the roundtable. Jin Zhe, Deputy Director of IREECAS CASS, moderated the discussion.
