On July 3, 2018, Kőszeg (Hungary) hosted a session “At the Intersection of Migration and Populist Politics” within XXIII International Summer University (ISU) "Europe in the Vortex of Change”.

The cross-cutting theme of the University this year is "Europe in the Vortex of Change: Central European Scenarios", while migration that led to a serious political crisis in the EU, was the topic of one of the sessions.

However, the discussion focused not only on the migration crisis in the EU. Elena Alekseyenkova, RIAC Program Manager, made a report on the migration situation and migration policy in Russia. She noted that, despite the complicated relations between Russia and the EU, migration represents the area where cooperation is possible: from joint development of methods for assessing the labor market needs in the foreign workforce to sharing experience in the area of adaptation and integration of migrants, given that the EU has already accumulated considerable expertise.
