On November 10, 2021, the European External Action Service delegation, headed by Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service, and Tomas Niklasson, the EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan, visited Russian International Affairs Council.

On November 10, 2021, the European External Action Service delegation, headed by Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service, and Tomas Niklasson, the EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan, visited Russian International Affairs Council.

The delegation also included other EEAS representatives and members of the EU Delegation to Russia. The following issues were discussed during the meeting: possible interaction between Russia and the European Union in the APR and the Indian Ocean region, prospects for the development of multilateral formats of international cooperation in Asia, and the impact of the U.S.-China confrontation on the situation in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. In addition, the parties exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan and the possibilities of coordinating Russian and the EU strategies on the Afghan vector.
