On October 15­–16, 2019, a meeting of the European Council on Foreign Relations Russia Strategy Group (Russia) was held in Paris.

The Group was attended by over thirty experts, diplomats, and journalists from France, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Finland, Slovakia, and other European countries. Russia at the meeting was represented by Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, as well as Igor Istomin, Dmitry Suslov, and Sergey Utkin, RIAC experts.

The main topics for discussion were the latest initiatives of French President Emanuel Macron on the new European architecture for security and development, prospects for the revival of arms control in Europe, the situation with the settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. RIAC representatives and the leadership of the European Council also discussed the possibility of expanding institutional cooperation between the two organizations.
