On April 15, 2020, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) together with HSE School of Asian Studies held an online discussion focusing on the topic Libyan Crisis: Current Status and Prospects for Settlement. The participants in the discussion discussed the ethnical, confessional and tribal factor in the coordinate system of the political crisis, the role of Muslim brotherhood and Salafis, Sufis, radical forces, clans, and families. Particular attention was paid to the regional dimension of the conflict, competition and external interference: the approaches of regional capitals, the formation of tactical and strategic coalitions. The experts presented their vision of the international dimension of the conflict (post-Geneva process, UN, EU and African Union) and scenarios for the development of the situation (military solution, political settlement or freezing of the conflict?).
