On March 27, 2023, with the assistance of The Shaikh Group political consultancy, the ordinary virtual expert meeting on security issues in the regions of the Middle East and North Africa took place.

Experts from Russia, the USA, a number of European countries, China, and India took part in the discussion. The discussion focused on the consequences of the implementation of the agreement on restoration of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, reached through the mediation of China, in particular, possible progress in resolving civil conflicts in Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon.

Experts from Russia, the USA, a number of European countries, China, and India took part in the discussion. The discussion focused on the consequences of the implementation of the agreement on restoration of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, reached through the mediation of China, in particular, possible progress in resolving civil conflicts in Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon.

Other discussion points included the current political trends in Israel, the dynamics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the possibility for creating multilateral mechanisms to ensure the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Russia was represented at the discussion by Irina Zvyagelskaya, Head of the Center for the Middle East Studies of the IMEMO RAS, Professor of the Department of Oriental Studies at MGIMO MFA, Senior Researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies at RAS Institute of Oriental Studies, RIAC Member; Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Academic Director; and Elena Suponina, RIAC Expert.
