On April 3, 2019, French Embassy in Moscow held a seminar on security issues in the Middle East and North Africa region and opportunities for Russia–France cooperation in this region.

Professor Gilles Kepel, one of the leading French experts on the Middle East, was the keynote speaker and made a presentation of his new book, Beyond Chaos (Sortir du Chaos). Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, was the co-rapporteur. The event was moderated by Sylvie Bermann, French Ambassador to Russia.

The event was attended by experts on oriental studies from academic institutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professors from Moscow universities, representatives of foreign embassies, and journalists. Timur Makhmutov, RIAC Deputy Director of Programs, and Pyotr Kortunov, RIAC Program Assistant, represented RIAC at the round table.
