On September 7, 2021, the first meeting of the Advisory Council of "Russia-UK Bilateral Expert Dialogue" was held within the framework of the sixth cycle of the project “A New Agenda for Russia–UK Relations”.
RIAC is implementing the sixth cycle of the project in collaboration with the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and Third Generation Environmentalism (E3G), an independent European think tank on climate change.
On September 7, 2021, the first meeting of the Advisory Council of "Russia-UK Bilateral Expert Dialogue" was held within the framework of the sixth cycle of the project “A New Agenda for Russia–UK Relations”.
RIAC is implementing the sixth cycle of the project in collaboration with the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and Third Generation Environmentalism (E3G), an independent European think tank on climate change.
The Advisory Council created within the framework of the Dialogue is a forum of Russian and British industry experts in the three areas of the Dialogue: the Middle East and North Africa (Professor Vitaly Naumkin, RIAC Vice-President; The Rt Hon Alistair Burt); climate change (Professor Tatyana Mitrova; Chris Stark); strategic stability and arms control (Evgeny Buzhinsky, Lieutenant-General (retired), RIAC Vice-President; Lord Peter Ricketts). The Advisory Board is chaired by Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, and Malcolm Chalmers, Deputy Director-General of RUSI.
The Council's tasks include promoting the development of coordinated approaches between the two countries in the priority areas of the project by building partnerships between individual experts and expert communities in Russia and the UK. In addition, the Council will seek high-level engagement of relevant policymakers in Russia and the UK by briefing on the project key findings and recommendations, and will foster engagement with the general public and stakeholders to develop bilateral relations. It is planned to hold three meetings of the Advisory Council during the implementation of the project.
The first meeting of the Council focused on presentation and discussion of the programs for the implementation of three areas of the Bilateral Dialogue, within the framework of which 5 workshops in each area will be held for leading Russian and British experts. The lists of key Russian and British experts in each of the areas were presented and approved.
The first workshop within the framework of the Bilateral Dialogue on the Middle East and North Africa will be held on September 9, 2021. The first workshop on climate change will be held on September 14, 2021. The first workshop on strategic stability and arms control will be held on September 29, 2021.
