On May 22-23, 2015, the international conference “The Arab World and Russia: Current Transformations of an Enduring Relationship” was held in Doha. The event was organized by Arab Center for Research & Policy Studies. The event was attended by over 50 experts, journalists and public figures from the Arab world, Middle East analysts from key specialized Russian institutions, as well as Russian Ambassador to Qatar Nurmahmad Kholov and representatives of other CIS embassies. RIAC Director General Andrey Kortunov attended the conference where he delivered a lecture “Is there a Role for Russia in the Arab World?” and also held talks with Dr. Azmi Bishara, Director General of Arab Center for Research & Policy Studies on opportunities for cooperation of their think tanks.

During his stay in Doha, Dr. Kortunov also visited Qatari MFA to meet Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah and other officials and discuss prospects for Russian-Qatari relations, Syria settlement and other Middle East issues, and also to brief them on RIAC’s coverage of the Middle East problems and plans for cooperation with Arab think tanks.
