On July 8th, 2013 the 3rd Russian-American Seminar was held in Moscow. The seminar was organized by the Center for the National Interest, the Institute for Democracy and Cooperation, and the Institute for Public Planning.

Previous seminars on topical issues in Russian-American relations took place in 2011 (titled “Values and Foreign Policy”) and in 2012 (titled “The Reset or the Concept of Deterrence Once Again?”). This year the discussion focused on possibilities of Russian-American cooperation in relation to the situation in Syria and the problems of bilateral Russian-American relations in the light of upcoming Russian-American Summit in September 2013 and G20 Leaders’ Summit.

The Russian side included RIAC member Deputy Director of the RAS Institute of Europe Alexey Gromyko, RIAC General Director Andrei Kortunov, Director of the RAS Institute for Oriental Studies Vitaly Naumkin, also a RIAC member, and a large group of RIAC experts. Among the American participants were Deputy Commander in Chief, U.S. European Command, General Charles Boyd, former Senator Gary Hart, and Executive Director of the Center for the National Interest Paul Saunders.
