Has served in the diplomatic service since 1969.

Worked in embassies of the USSR in Colombia and Angola.  

Was Deputy Chief of the Main Directorate of Personnel and Educational Institutions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR, Head of the Department for Social and Material Development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Director of the Department of Information Support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and then Director of the Security Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.    

1990–1996: Consul General of the USSR and the Russian Federation, Barcelona, Spain.

2000–2005: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Chile.

2008–2013: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Lithuania.

Honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts, the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and the Academy of Security, Defence and Law Enforcement Issues.

Recipient of Russian and foreign state awards.
