Graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). Holds a Ph.D. degree in Economics.

Held various positions at the USSR Trade Mission in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), in the CPSU Central Committee International Department, at the MFA central office and overseas missions.

Was Russian Ambassador to Mongolia and Poland.

From June 2005 to April 2013, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to China.

Author of a number of academic papers and publications.
