The Russian International Affairs Council held the latest meeting of the Working Group for the Building Greater Europe project on 2 October. The meeting discussed the prospects for the development of Greater Europe in view of current political conditions, the institutional framework of Greater Europe, opportunities for the OSCE in tackling the Ukraine crisis, and challenges originating in the Middle East region.

The following members of the Working Group and experts took part in the meeting: Igor Ivanov, president of the RIAC; Andrei Kortunov, director general of the RIAC; Anthony Brenton, former UK Ambassador in Russia; Tarja Cronberg, former member of the European Parliament; Ozdem Sanberk, president of the International Strategic Research Organisation (USAK) and former deputy foreign minister of Turkey; Piotr Koscinski, Eastern European Programme Coordinator at the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM); Vyacheslav Trubnikov, vice-president of the RIAC, member of the Directorate of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia; Georgy Mamedov, vice-president of the RIAC and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia; Vitaly Zhurkin, member of the RIAC and honorary director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Alexei Gromyko, member of the RIAC and director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Sergei Markedonov, associate professor in the department of foreign regional studies and foreign policy at the Russian State University for the Humanities; Mikhail Troitsky, associate professor in the department of international relations and Russian foreign policy at MGIMO University; Pavel Kanevsky, deputy dean of the sociology faculty at Moscow State University; Igor Istomin, senior lecturer at MGIMO University; Ian Kearns, director of the European Leadership Network (ELN); Lukasz Kulesa, research director of the European Leadership Network; Ivan Timofeev, RIAC programme director; Natalya Evtikhevich, RIAC programme manager; Joseph Dobbs and Thomas Frear, ELN research fellows, and Has Kerim, USAK expert.
The Building Greater Europe project is run by the RIAC in partnership with the European Leadership Network (ELN), the International Strategic Research Organisation (USAK) and the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM). The project’s work includes regular meetings of the Working Group and publication of joint statements of a recommendatory nature on current international relations issues.
