On April 19–20 Rome hosted a seminar on challenges posed by the unprecedented refugee and migration crisis, and opportunities for cooperation between the EU and Russia to address them, organized jointly by Russian International Council, Delegation of the European Union to Russia, and Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI).

The following issues were discussed in the course of the event: migration in Russia and the EU, opportunities for Russia-EU interaction in the area of migration, and the prospects for the sharing experience.

On April 19–20 Rome hosted a seminar on challenges posed by the unprecedented refugee and migration crisis, and opportunities for cooperation between the EU and Russia to address them, organized jointly by Russian International Affairs Council, Delegation of the European Union to Russia, and Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI).

The following issues were discussed in the course of the event: migration in Russia and the EU, opportunities for Russia-EU interaction in the area of migration, and the prospects for the sharing experience.

Experts from Russia and the EU, the permanent members of the group, as well as experts invited to speak on relevant topics took part in the seminar. RIAC was represented by Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, Ambassador Aleksandr Aksenenok, RIAC vice-president, Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs, Natalia Vyakhireva, RIAC Program Manager.

The seminar was held within the framework of the initiative to form the EU-Russia expert network aimed at strengthening long-term cooperation between Russia and the EU.

Several round tables on different aspects of the relations between Russia and the EU were held within the framework of the project in 2017-2018. The project is designed until the summer of 2018 with the possibility of extension.
