On October 7, 2015, the Brookings Institution, Washington DC, hosted the 6th session of the Russian-American Albright-Talbott-Ivanov Arms Control Initiative, a platform for high-level track-two consultations launched in 2011. The discussants focused on possible Russian-American interaction within the Syrian conflict and the war against the ISIS, resumption of consultations on political transition in Syria and prospects for new security system for the Middle East.
On October 7, 2015, the Brookings Institution, Washington DC, hosted the 6th session of the Russian-American Albright-Talbott-Ivanov Arms Control Initiative, a platform for high-level track-two consultations launched in 2011. The event was attended by RIAC President Igor Ivanov and Director General Andrey Kortunov, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Brookings Institution President Strobe Talbott, as well as several retired U.S. officials and diplomats.
The discussants focused on possible Russian-American interaction within the Syrian conflict and the war against the ISIS, resumption of consultations on political transition in Syria and prospects for new security system for the Middle East, as well as various aspects of the Ukraine crisis, including possible augmentation of the Normandy format with new multilateral mechanisms and an agenda for Ukraine settlement beyond the Minsk agreements.
The participants also discussed principles and priorities for a future arms control regime.
