On July 11, 2018, Timur Makhmutov, RIAC Deputy Director of Programs, made a speech within the seminar on security and development in the Arctic. The event was organized by George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies and gathered more than 30 participants from the Arctic countries, as well as the EU, actively involved in analytical and practical work in the area of Arctic studies.

Marshall European Center for Security Studies and gathered more than 30 participants from the Arctic countries, as well as the EU, actively involved in analytical and practical work in the area of Arctic studies.

The discussions focused on assessing the risks and opportunities for cooperation in the northernmost region of the world. Particular attention was given to security challenges and analysis of the potential of the countries developing their activity in the Arctic Ocean. Many speakers noted the growing role of non-regional players in advancing their agenda in the Arctic.
