Worldwide Growth of Interest in the Arctic Is Not Surprising

On March 21, 2017 RIAC hosted an expert discussion “Science Diplomacy: US–Russia Cooperation in the Arctic”. Paul Berkman, Professor of Practice in Science Diplomacy of Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, Director of US-Russia Relations Project supported by the Carnegie Corporation, and Oran Young, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California, told Maria Smekalova about recent events in the region.

RIAC holds the expert meeting with Professor Yan Xuetong

On April 6, 2017 Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) will host the expert meeting with Professor Yan Xuetong, Dean of the Institute of Modern International Relations at Tsinghua University, President at the Carnegie–Tsinghua Management Board of the Carnegie–Tsinghua Center For Global Policy, Secretary-General of the World Peace Forum, Vice Chairman of the China Association of International Relations Studies. Professor Yan will deliver a key speech on the topic «Challenges to International Order».

RIAC and RUSI presented a joint report on Russia-UK relations

On March 28th 2017, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) held a roundtable at the media center of "Rossiya Segodnya" news agency aimed at analyzing the main trends and prospects for further development of Russia-UK relations. Participants of the roundtable discussed key challenges of international security as well as the role of Russian-British cooperation in their settlement. More particularly, the potential prospects for Russia-Britain cooperation in the field of fight against international terrorism and fight against extremism, the possibility of restoring regular dialogue and the establishment of a systemic one at the highest level as well other issues have been deeply analyzed. A joint report on Russia-UK relations prepared by the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and the Royal United Service Institute (RUSI) was presented at the round table.

RIAC Members Meet with the British Foreign Office's Director for Defence and International Security

On March, 27 a group of RIAC members met with Peter Jones, Director for Defence and International Security, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, at the residence of the British Ambassador to Russia. The meeting covered the state and prospects of the Russia-UK relations, pending security issues in Europe as well as the problems regarding Ukranian and Syrian crises settlement. On March 28, the RIAC hosted a roundtable with Ian Bond, Director of the Foreign Policy Department of the London Center for European Reforms. I. Bond presented the newly released report "Russia and China: partners of choice and necessity?" And two political overviews " Contested space: Eastern Europe between Russia and the EU" and " The EU, the Eurasian Economic Union and One Belt, One Road: Can they work together?"

RIAC Hosted the Final Expert Seminar on UK-Russia Security Cooperation

On March 27, the RIAC hosted the final expert seminar on security issues in relations between Russia and United Kingdom. The seminar was part of a joint project of the Russian International Affairs Council and the Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies (RUSI), the leading British think tank on defense issues. A joint report of the Russian International Affairs Council and Royal United Institute for Defense Studies "Defining Dialogue: How to Manage Russia–UK Security Relations" have been presented at the seminar.

This conference report summarises the discussions at two bilateral meetings held in London and Moscow between experts from the UK and Russia. The meetings sought to explore the security challenges facing the two countries, and to assist policymakers on both sides to identify realistic potential areas of engagement, as well as to confirm areas that are unlikely to produce results. They were organised by Russian International Affairs Council and Royal United Services Institute, and were attended by participants from various UK and Moscow-based institutions. At the meetings the participants examined a range of security challenges and made a series of recommendations to improve future UK–Russia security relations.

The book "GLOBALIZATION 2.0. New Approaches to Research and Teaching " Is Released

The book is the result of a joint Russian-Italian project "Globalization 2.0", implemented by the Russian International Affairs Council in partnership with the Venice International University. The book is a collection of bachelor's, master's and doctoral (Ph.D.) curricula and courses on the problems of globalization of leading Russian and Italian universities.

Russia–Turkey Interface for Europe

Following up the negotiations with Vladimir Putin on March 10, 2017, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a statement that Russia and Turkey had finalized the normalization process in the framework of their meeting in Moscow. Pyotr Stegniy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation, RIAC member, has told the RIAC editorial staff about Russia-Turkey cooperation potential and possible changes in the Republic of Turkey in terms of the constitutional referendum.

25 years of U.S.–Russia Relations: From Cold War to New Cold War?

On 24 March, 2017, the Georgetown University hosted the conference “25 years of U.S.–Russia Relations: From Cold War to New Cold War?” Igor Ivanov, RIAC President and Madeleine Albright, Ex-Secretary of State, Chairman of Albright Stonebridge Group spoke at the special Session. The speakers shared their diplomatic experience in solving difficult international problems and also the vision of the current situation.
