On March 23, 2017, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC hosted the discussion of joint RIAC–CSIS report “Roadmap for U.S.-Russia relations”, prepared by group of experts from the two countries. The report was presented by Olga Olicker, Senior Adviser and Director, Russia and Eurasia Program, CSIS, Kathleen H. Hicks, Senior Vice President; Henry A. Kissinger Chair; Director, International Security Program, OIeg Stepanov, Director, Foreign Policy Planning Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Rogov, Scientific Director, Institute of U.S. and Canadian Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, RIAC member. RIAC was represented by its President Igor Ivanov and Andrey Kortunov, Director General.

On March 23, 2017, Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General met with Kathleen Kavalec, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, and Eric Green, Foreign Service Officer on the Russian desk, at the U.S. Department of State. The parties discussed restoring Russia-U.S. cooperation in various spheres and settling the Syrian and Ukrainian crises as well as preparing Russia-U.S. top-level meeting.

The CSIS Russia and Eurasia Program and the Russian International Affairs Council are pleased to present the findings from their forthcoming report, "A Roadmap for U.S.-Russia Relations." This project, undertaken during a period of significant tension and distrust in the bilateral relationship, brought together a bi-national group of experts to develop clear and actionable paths forward for U.S.-Russian cooperation in key areas critical to the security and prosperity of both countries. At this launch event, we will discuss some of the key recommendations of the report in the context of today's still evolving—and still challenging—dynamic.

On November 19-20 New York City hosted 39th plenary session of the international business leaders forum. The Forum has been traditionally organized under the auspices of RAND (RAND Business Leaders Forum) twice a year (in Moscow and in New York City) since 1997. The event gathered CEOs of key Russian and U.S. corporations, investment funds, consultancies, think tanks, and non-governmental organizations. Russian International Affairs Council has been taking part in the Forum since 2012.

On October 20, 2016 Moscow hosted a meeting of RIAC members with an American Working Group delegation, established by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, to draw up recommendations on shaping the American foreign policy towards Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia as a whole.

On October 17, 2016 Washington, DC, hosted a meeting of the working group of RIAC and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) project on the development of Russia-U.S. relations. The working group discussed a draft of the joint report that analyzes the state of Russia-U.S. relations in key areas and makes recommendations for their improvement. The report is expected to be published in late 2016.

On October 17, 2016 RIAC Program Director Ivan Timofeev took part in the roundtable discussion “Prospects for Russian-US Relations and the Role of Interregional Cooperation”, which was held in the Yeltsin-Center of Ekaterinburg. The event was organized by nonprofit organizations “The Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center” and “The Center for Euro-Asian Studies.”

On September 30, 2016 Salvatore Babones, Associate Professor of Sociology & Social Policy, University of Sydney, delivered at RIAC a lecture on the new world order led by the United States. He noted that in the second millennium, the entire population of the world is divided into “the American world,” those who oppose it, and those who want to be part of it. Even representatives of the Russian, Chinese and Iranian elites seek to send their children to study at American and British universities.

On May 28-29, 2016 Moscow hosted the 38th round of the International RAND Business Leaders Forum (IBLF). The Forum convenes under the auspices of the Rand Corporation twice a year beginning from 1997. The Forum was originally a platform for a bilateral Russian-American business dialogue, but in recent years the list of participants has been enlarged by mostly European business leaders and experts.

On May 2, 2016 RIAC Director General Andrey Kortunov delivered a public lecture on the prospects of Russia’s foreign policy and US-Russian relations to teachers, research students and students of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The lecture took place at the MIT Center for International Studies in Cambridge, MA.
