Roundtable “The former Soviet Union 25 Years after: Past, Present and the Future of Ex-republics”

On February, 9 2017, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) held the press-conference in the media centre of Rossiya Segodnya news agency, dedicated to the main trends and the prospects for the development of the post-Soviet space. The event was timed for the 25th anniversary of the Soviet Union dissolution and the formation of new independent states on its territory.

Russia-Georgia: Cooperation in the Area of Security

On November 24-25, 2016, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) hosted a Russia-Georgia expert meeting on Russia-Georgia cooperation in the area of security. The event was held within the framework of the RIAC and International Center on Conflict and Negotiation (ICCN) (Georgia) project «Assistance to Russia-Georgia Dialogue» with the support of the Human Security Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.

Meeting with Latvian Diplomats

On November 22, Russian International Affairs Council hosted a meeting of Andrey Kortunov, Director General, RIAC, Viktors Makarovs, Parliamentary Secretary, Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Latvian Embassy to Russia staff. The following issues were discussed in the course of the meeting: current Russia-Latvia relations, Baltic region security challenges, Moscow-Riga Track II diplomacy priorities and perspective framework for cooperation.

RIAC and ICСN go ahead with joint project “Assistance to Russia-Georgia Dialogue”

On June 30, 2016, the Georgian city of Batumi hosted a Russian-Georgian expert meeting titled “Economic Cooperation between Russia and Georgia: Opportunities and Prospects”. The event is sponsored by the Russian International Affairs Council and Georgian International Center of Conflicts and Negotiations (ICСN) with the support of the Human Security Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland. During two days Russian, Georgian and Swiss experts will be discussing economic interaction between Russia and Georgia, including money transfers and trade (current status and future ties), emerging economic challenges of regional scale (DCFTA, EEU and WTO); and European approach to cooperation between Russia and Georgia on the WTO platform.

Experts from Germany, the USA, Ukraine and Russia Forecast Ukraine’s Future

On April 9-12, 2016 representatives of four leading research centers from Germany, the USA, Ukraine and Russia, namely the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES), the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), the Institute for Global Transformations and the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), held a meeting in Potsdam to make forecasts about the future of Ukraine in the ten-year term.

Russian and Georgian Experts Discuss Prospects for Bilateral Cooperation in the Energy Sector

Astana Club Opened

On November 9-11, 2015, RIAC Program Director Ivan Timofeev was in Astana at the first session of the Astana Club created for discussion of key Eurasian problems and trends by international analysts. The new platform partners with the Russian International Affairs Council, German Council on Foreign Relations, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
