Sergey Ryabkov

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

The BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) have no goal of using the alliance for dominance on the international arena, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Wednesday.
"We have never set and cannot set the task of using the grouping in the interests of dominance in the international affairs, for narrow geopolitical and geostrategic interests," the diplomat told an international conference at Russia’s Diplomatic Academy.
BRICS is tasked with creating more favorable conditions for developing each member-state. "The grouping is not aimed against anyone," he stressed. "The BRICS countries do not impose their approaches and their opinion on others."
"We are convinced that no state can strengthen its security at the expense of others," Ryabkov said. "We call for observing the principle of resolving conflicts by only political and diplomatic means."
The diplomat said this concerns the hotspots like Syria, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and others.
